We made the paper!
My Junior report from the first coach session of the year, has featured in the Blackmore Vale Magazine. Miranda Robertson at the BMV kindly put to print the fact that we are back in business after a year of turmoil and even put Max Faulkner's Carp front and centre, a new PB for him.
Miranda's article will very much help to boost the profile of the Juniors locally and is very much appreciated.
In other news, I am delighted to say that DDAS Juniors has been awarded some funding from the AIF, (Angling Investment Fund) via the Angling Trust. The AIF distributes funds taken from our EA fishing rod licence money back into angling projects, particularly Junior projects like ours. A sum of just under £1000 will be used to buy some promotional equipment that will enable us to have a higher profile going forward. Feather flags and banners will let everyone know that we are present at any venue that we visit. Some venues we use are shared with day ticket anglers and other visitors. So DDAS Juniors will be more visible and hopefully attract the right kind attention. In addition to outside promo equipment, we will be able to purchase some really smart looking display stands for our Community Outreach program for when we can re-start to visit schools for talks and demonstrations, and to promote DDAS Juniors at fares and open days.
Our Coaching program has been extended to allow in more Carp fishing exercises. The
popularity of Carp fishing is bigger than ever and, unfortunately, that means that sometimes lack of experience in younger anglers leads to less than adequate tackle and methods being used, despite the amount of tutorials on things like Youtube.
Hopefully, we can start to educate new anglers, not only in the basics of general coarse fishing, but give them a better start to proper Carp fishing, should they wish to pursue it.
The introduction of a new 'BREAM' level has increased to program to SEVEN levels, all of which are now available to view on the Juniors website.
On the subject of the website, I have re-designed the layout of the COACHING & EVENTS section of the site to make it more interesting and easier to navigate.
That's it for now, don't forget, our postponed Coaching session from last week, a good call as it turns out. After the sunshine on Friday, I've never been so pleased to see wind and rain on the Saturday. Operating our new format of a 10.30am start and a 30 minute lunch break, hopefully the weather, particularly the wind, will be kinder to us...
