I’ll be honest it took quite a bit of self motivation to actually get to my first match since last September, but I’m kinda glad I did…
The abuse started early from virtually everyone. Comments ranging from who the heck are you? Through are you lost? To have you messed the bed? All this soon turned to, he’s back. Draw bag strikes again. To you haven’t lost your luck then mate, when I drew peg 8 on the main lake. The best fishing spot this side of Todber Manor…
The banter was good fun as we settled into what turned out to be a rather uneventful match for most. But peg 8 may as well be on a different lake to everyone else with opportunities and fish everywhere. Even a rusty, out of practice old duffer like me can have his ego boosted to artificial levels. I ended up by winning with a comfortable margin with 43lb of 17 Carp and 3 skimmers.
Those of you that are familiar with the blogs will know that things rarely go smoothly for me and today was no exception.
Feeding accurately with a pole is one of its strongest asset. The cupping kit can be a useful tool when you get to know how to use it.
Not quite so useful when you leave it in your shed… This did play in my hands a little because I’d also forgotten my thermal mug for my coffee. So, I used the now redundant feeding cup as a drinking vessel that made for an interesting twist on the pallet. One that I won’t be recommending going forward…
A fun day with (increasingly) old friends left me wondering why I had left it this long…but it’s good to know I’ve still got it. Even if it was peg 8!
