Progress is underway on the new 2023 season of junior fishing. All of the dates have been sent to the fisheries and we now await confirmations so that they can be published to you lovely lot...
The venue I am most excited by is without doubt the River Stour. This is, at the time of writing, is very much subject to confirmation but I can barely keep a lid on it! The picture above is the Dorset Stour, but I am not sure where... I have posted a video on our Facebook page that shows the stretch at Nutford which we will hopefully be visiting. I should be meeting Craig Whelan from the Blandford club very soon to talk about how it is all going to work. Craig is as keen as I am to get mini anglers involved in fishing, so I'm positive that we can work it all out. I am hoping to get us to Nutford as early as March. This may be hoping for too much but, if you don't ask, you don't get... If all goes to plan, we could be fishing the river on FOUR different occasions!
The other new venue is the long awaited Silverlake complex which we will visit in July. The swims are going in right now and progress has been good considering the horrendous weather over the winter so far. The water levels are good and holding well and the next big job is moving the fish. I don't know when, so don't ask! The complex will be brand new, so don't expect lawns and lush foliage to begin with. In time, however, you will soon forget the bareness of the dirt as nature takes hold. Exciting times...
Our coaching session at Revels at the end of March is titled 'How Mouldy Is Your Gear?' We can get a good look at who has looked after their fishing tackle through the winter, and who has still got mould covering the reels from the rain during the Christmas Match! For just £1 per spool, we can top up your reels with fresh new line and make a shopping list of things that you may need to replenish in your tackle boxes. We'll give you some tips on cleaning your rods, reels, poles, and everything else that you need to do to make yourself better anglers without going to any lakes! Who be awarded the title of 'Grubbiest Junior/Stig of the Lake' and take the 10 point hit in their championship score?
Am I joking?
Even I don't know!!!
Tom Foyle has made the decision to stand down as the Assistant Junior Secretary, although the Red Fox has stated that he wants to stay involved with the Juniors when he can. I hope he does because he has been and still is a great asset to the club in so many ways. I would like to thank him for his part in trying to create a sustainable coaching for our juniors. Something that has been difficult to execute sometimes. The other thing, of course, is that with Tom not attending so many events, the focus of The Mudslinger has to go somewhere... The book of Nicknames is open and the ever watchful eye is alert...
Thank you Mr Tom and God bless you and all who sail in you. I'm sure we'll see you around from time to time.
Re-Gen news now and we have a new commander at the helm. Si Wagner has kindly offered to try to make sense of the chaos and wade into the mountain of tackle have accumulated after my pre-Christmas meltdown when I drove the whole lot to our store! If you reading this drivel and you have any tackle items you would like to donate, or if you would like to borrow an item from the store, then please contact Si on 07779156327.
I'd leave it a week or two to allow him time to come to terms with the magnitude of the task before you light up his mobile though...
That's all you're getting for now.
Juniors Sec...
