Rain, Mud, and efficient coaching...

It looks like it is going to rain on Saturday (Sorry Anna!) so you will ALL need to bring weather appropriate clothing...

Also, there may or may not have been work done to some of the pegs at Revels, so it could be muddy too...

Mud + Rain = A gosh awful mess!

Wellies are essential. You don't have to buy expensive wellies like the ones in the picture. These are Jerry's custom-made wellies, but anything waterproof will do...

Umbrellas! Don't shout this repeatedly in a supermarket... You get ejected quite quickly... The coaches will be bringing umbrellas with them, but we don't have any in the Re-Gen store. Bribes will be dependent on how dry you want to stay...

Remember, it's only rain and mud. You will get clean and dry later (eventually)...

With increasing numbers of juniors, comes the issue of lack of coaches. The allocation of an area/seating plan will be necessary to allow us to be more efficient with regards to coaching.

The plan is as follows...

Austin Scott-Kennedy, Josiah Wells-Parkes, Jack Cryer, Harry Cryer will be on pegs 1 to 4 (Permanent pegs 6 to 11)

These pegs will be overseen by Jon Bass and Si Wagner.

Ollie Smith, Jake Taylor, Faith Stone will be on pegs 5, 6, or 7. (Permanent pegs 12 to 16) These pegs will be overseen Graham Howard

Carter Lynock (If present), Leo Bates, Jack Bates, Liam Serkis will be on pegs 8 to 11. (Permanent pegs 18 to 21)

These pegs will be overseen by Jerry Bracey and Chris Ward.

Bait and method update. After speaking to Alan in the tackle shop yesterday, the fish are starting to shy away from pellets. The summer is over as far as fishing at Revels is concerned. The margins are working very well depending on how any bank work has disrupted the fishing. I would put maggots at the top of the list of bait requirements and a minimum of a pint of maggots is needed. If you are really keen, I would buy a pint and a half and remove half for feed and hook bait, the other half I would freeze (Kill), and use them dead.

You need a zip lock freezer bag and a freezer (Obviously, Duh!) Place the maggots, preferably freshly riddled, into the zip lock bag and carefully squeeze out all the air, zipping it closed before any air gets back in. Rolling the bag works best. Pop it in the freezer overnight and in the morning the maggots will have gone night-night... It is best to allow them to defrost naturally, but if they are still frozen when you come to use them, pop them in some lake water in a bait pot and the ice will quickly melt.

Why use dead maggots? Quite simply, they can't crawl away into the mud on the bottom... Personally, I don't like to use old dead maggots or refreeze them. They need to be freshly dead.

Hey! It's nearly Halloween! When all the dead maggots you've ever killed will rise again!!!

(They won't...)
