Junior Coaching #2 - Revels

On to our second session of the year and the first of 2022 at Revels. Although I did not fish myself, I did pop up there yesterday to talk to the match danglers on the mid-week Tuesday banterfest match.

Before I get started on the report, if you haven’t heard already the AGM/presentation evening has been cancelled/postponed until later in the year. Because it is an indoor event, I completely agree due to the rising number of Covid cases that are being reported lately. Our Junior events are, of course, outdoors. But that doesn’t mean that we need to be careless with the precautions that we need to take in order to keep everyone safe. I can not enforce the use of Lateral Flow Tests prior to attending junior events, but I do implore you all to do so. By doing these tests we can keep the risk of infection as low as possible, meaning that we can carry on doing what we love to do. Personally, I have much to lose if I get infected because of how vulnerable my partner is. I will be doing a test on the Saturday morning, and I ask you all to do the same please. If you are showing signs of Covid symptoms, then please do not attend the event.

For a start I think we can expect some colder conditions for Saturday with it being a breezy/windy forecast. So, we will all need to wrap up warm. Although it will be colder during the day, it will also be cold at night too. This means that the temps will be more consistent than if we were to have warmer days and cold nights. This consistency will stabilise the air pressure, help the fish to feel more balanced and let them feed more readily.

I will not know which lake we will be fishing until the night before/the morning of the event.

Bait requirements will be fairly straight forward.

1 pint of maggots (I would take red maggots with a few whites thrown in for a different hook bait) 4mm Expander Pellets (Soaked according to the instructions on the packet) Micro Pellets (2mm) for float and method feeder. Groundbait: Any Method Mix ground bait will do, but I favour Sonubaits. 4 & 6mm hard Pellets for feeder hook baits and maybe some flavoured ‘Wafters’.

Other baits to consider: Sweetcorn. Luncheon Meat Bread (3 or 4 slices should be enough)

ITINERY:

On arrival: Cough up the cash! £5.00 per junior (as usual) 10:30 Start. H&S chat followed by a tutorial on how to set up your equipment for a comfortable and efficient day fishing. 2:00pm We will come together to have a chat about our favourite wriggly friends, the humble maggot. What to do when you buy them, how to look after them, and make them last longer. 4:00pm finish.

As usual your junior’s progression on the coaching program can be found on the website by going to the coaching and events page and clicking on the ‘Individual Progression’ link. You will need to enter a password. If you don’t know or have forgotten the password, drop me an email to juniors.sec@d-das.com and I will send it to you.

That’s all for now. Any questions, please feel free to ask.

See you Saturday!
