Pre-event Report for Revels - 24/02/24

Despite the weather doing it’s best to ruin everything, we are finally ready to begin the 2024 junior season. Ok, so we’re not going on the river, but Revels is going to wet and windy enough for it to feel like you’re on a river!

With all the rain that is forecast, everyone is going to need to wrap up warm and be as waterproof as possible.

As usual, the theme of the first session is to blow off the cobwebs and get your gear sorted out.

Sorting your gear out will not take long because, of course, all the juniors will have checked and cleaned all their equipment and it will be gleaming and spotless…

With an extensive tackle shop on site, you will be able to get all your bait and tackle requirements on site.

For the newbies, we will be looking at preparing pellets and mixing ground bait. We will also look at how to be organised while you’re fishing and laying out your equipment to help you to be more efficient anglers. Some of the older ones might like to take note of that!

If you haven’t been to any/many of our sessions before, just bring the gear that you have, if you have any at all, and we will help you sort through it. There will be plenty of equipment for you to borrow for the session.

For the more experienced juniors, we might get the chance to have a chat about river fishing just in case we get the chance to go on the river before the closed season begins (15th March). Either way, the coaches will be on hand to answer your questions about the river.

I would like everyone to have a think about their fishing this year and what they would like to achieve. This could be anything from being more accurate with your casting, learning how to make pole rigs, or catch a particular species of fish. Set yourself a goal or target, and we can try to help towards achieving it.

We will also talk about the importance of recording your fishing trips in a diary.

The rest of the day will be spent having a good old fish at good old Revels with good old friends…

Get ready, here we go!
